New in 2005 — great "insider" fishing stories
Zach Harvey, editor of New England Fisherman, had this to say after reading The Mighty Bluefin by Capt. Roger Jarvis:
This book stinks of sun-ripened chum, cold coffee, and musty high school auditoriums where fisheries policy takes shape. It shouts like the sound of a screaming drag, a diesel engine in full reverse, and creaking fighting-chair gimbals. It puts readers face-to-face with the diverse characters that have abandoned gainful employment for the manic-depressive lifestyle that belongs to the bluefin tuna fleet.

Capt. Roger Jarvis has had salt in his veins since growing up on the New Jersey shore. He moved to Duxbury, Mass., more than 30 years ago to take that great job for a fisherman: teaching school. With his summers free for fishing, he paid his dues as he learned from the skillful pro fishermen of Cape Cod Bay. He has also been active in the Stellwagen Bank Sanctuary program and N.E. Fisheries Council.

And boy, can he tell a story!
